## What to know first
- Season and weather change pest pressure, but indoor pests can occur all year.

- Pair each season with a short property inspection.

- Treat the cause you find instead of applying products on a calendar alone.

## Spring: water, gaps and new activity
Warmer days bring ant trails, emerging stinging insects and renewed exterior activity. Spring rain can also expose drainage problems and standing water around containers, gutters and low spots.

Walk the foundation after winter. Look for gaps around utility lines, damaged door sweeps, loose screens and moisture against the structure. Empty water-holding containers and clear gutters before mosquito pressure builds.

## Summer: mosquitoes, ticks and outdoor nests
Mosquito and tick exposure rises as people spend more time outdoors and vegetation thickens. Public-health guidance emphasize removing standing water, using appropriate repellents and checking for ticks after time outside.

Watch rooflines, sheds and play areas for regular wasp or hornet traffic. Do not block an active nest opening. Keep outdoor dining areas clean and garbage lids closed, especially in dense neighborhoods.

## Fall: the move indoors
Cooler nights can drive rodents and occasional invaders toward sheltered buildings. Inspect basement windows, garage corners, pipe penetrations and doors before heating season.

Trim vegetation away from the siding where practical and store bird seed, grass seed and pet food in hard containers. Address fresh gaps before trapping or baiting so the plan covers both the animals present and the route they used.

## Winter: indoor conditions still count
Rodents, cockroaches, bed bugs and pantry pests do not disappear because it is cold outside. Heated apartments provide warmth, food and water throughout winter.

Use the quieter exterior season to repair screens, organize storage and check for leaks. After holiday travel, inspect luggage before putting it away and dry travel clothing as recommended when bed bugs are a concern.

## Build a useful maintenance rhythm
A calendar is a reminder to inspect, not a reason to spray. The best next step depends on the pest, evidence and property conditions you find that day.

- Monthly: check sinks, trash areas and stored food.

- Each season: inspect the exterior, screens, doors and utility gaps.

- After travel or used-furniture purchases: inspect before items reach sleeping areas.

- When signs appear: photograph, identify and act before activity spreads.
